Chevrolet had made no basic change in the Chevelle design or arrangement of the 1969. For this muscle car in 1969 there was no separate Chevelle SS 396 series however, the super sport equipment package became the Z 25 option, which was ordered for 86,307 cars. A buyer could turn Chevelle into a SS 396 for just another payment of foreign $40 in 1969. The high-performance option package included the 396/325 hp engine, dual exhausts with oval tailpipes and bright tips, a black painted grille, bright wheel openings and roof drip moldings, a black painted rear: panel, Malibu style rear quarter and gaps, Malibu taillights and Malibu bezel, a twin towered dome hood, the special SS 396 emblem on the grill as well the front fenders and rear deck lid.
